The mysterious Isabel(la) Jane BURKINSHAW
« on: Sunday 17 March 13 17:52 GMT (UK) »
This lady was my late stepfather's great grandmother, born in Pancras about 1856 according to census records; however I can't find her birth. She had one daughter Florence Maud BURKINSHAW on whose birth certificate Isabl is down as a "gentlewoman". Florence's father is not known. Isabel used the surname HOWES and is shown as living with James HOWES in Kingston in the 1901 census. James was a divorcee but does not appear to have married Isabel. In 1911 Isabel is living with her daughter and her husband in Kingston still using the name HOWES. Does anyone know anything about her parentage or early days?

It does not look like she marrried James as he divorced his wife in 1895  as he had met a woman whom he wished to marry, having split with his wife in 1888, so not Florence's father.

In the latter census he is living alone and discribes himself as still divorced, he does not die until 1921.

Could Frederick the employer be the father?

1891 census Laurel Cottage Garrett Lane Wandsworth

Frederick Axam 51 Laundry man Bedford
Charlotte 48 Launderess St.Pancras
Isabell Burinshaw 35 boarder single Laundrywoman Camberwell

Did they swop the places of birth for the two women by mistake?
