There's a Richard and Louisa Thompson in Islington in 1871/1881 with various children but no Charlotte  :(

There are two marriages Richard Henry Thompson/Louisa 1871 Greenwich and 1873 but not Louisa Smith.
One has a bride missing 1873 Lambeth but whilst there is already a Louisa bride listed the missing one could conceivably be another Louisa.

Just to double check the birth certificate you have is it Louisa Smith mother (as in not married to the father even though he is named) or Louisa Thompson formerly Smith as in wife?

I may be going off on the wrong track but found a Richard Thompson carpenter in 1871 living Pirbright? Surrey age 23 not married living with his family.  Thinking he and Louisa were not married when Charlotte was born and Louisa and Charlotte would be under Smith  :-\

Ignore that he is in 1881 with a Hannah sorry  :-[

Thank you  ;D  I am also hoping that it all works out - as ever it is a case of certificates needed to verify the thought process.
I am still a bit unsure  :-\ although it does look ok. There seem to be a few Richard Thompsons.

Yes may I also thank you for all your efforts. Hope to find the 1881 entry tonight and see what it says.
Yes Gain, Louisa Smith named Richard Thompson on Charlotte's birth certificate but wasn't married to him. Unusual isn't it?
