Yes may I also thank you for all your efforts. Hope to find the 1881 entry tonight and see what it says.
Yes Gain, Louisa Smith named Richard Thompson on Charlotte's birth certificate but wasn't married to him. Unusual isn't it?

If the scenario I have outlined is correct though, that Charlotte isn't the right one.

Hi Heywood
Can i just clarify that 1881 375/95/31 you quoted refers to 1881 census folio 375 piece 95 page 31? I only ask because I'm getting nowhere finding any Thompsons using that :-[ Thanks.

How's this for coincidence? The birth certificate I had originally shows Charltte THOMPSON born 18 Oct 1870 to Louisa SMITH, father Richard THOMPSON in Union Workhouse, St Olave district. I now have (thanks to Heywood :)) Charlotte Elllen LEADER, born 18 Oct1870 to Louisa LEADER in Drummond Road Bermondsey St Olave district, no father's name given..... Later in 1873 Louisa marries Richard Henry THOMPSON. More head scratching!

:) I think that possibly you know the answer, Charlotte was born prior to the marriage to Richard Henry Thompson?!

Yes clearly she was but to have 2 certificates with such similar details? Is that not odd?
