Hi well either you knew she was called Brooks in 1901 which would have helped as Charlotte is with children shown as married RG13/716/30/1

Yes I did know, she and William Henry Brooks appeared as husband and wife for over 20 years. It was Charlotte Ellen's childhood and early years - 1871 onwards - that have eluded me.  ???

;D I asked much earlier if you had any other census returns with Charlotte b Bermondsey, if you had replied yes when she was shown as a Brooks, then all the last few posts would have not been necessary from me!

Right start again, where the hell was she 1871/1881!!

Did she marry someone else in 1937?

I see some of the later census indicate a birth date after 1871 so perhaps she doesn't appear until 1881  :-\ not that she is appearing at all.

Charlotte remarried and became Charlotte Ellen Searle. She was probably born Oct 1870 so should have been in the 1871 census and the 1881. I can find her in neither. Know where she was once she set up home with William Henry BROOKS.

Hello,

just wondering about Richard Henry Thompson - why do you think he is Irish?

Does he have the same occupation on the birth certificate and the marriage certificate?

Which workhouse was she born in?

regards
heywood

Hi Heywood,

The Irish thing is because my late ex mother-in-law (daughter of Charlotte Ellen) told me she had Irish blood and I haven't seen it on her father's side. Charlotte was born in the Union Workhouse, St John's Southwark if this certificate is right. Her father's occupation is carpenter at that time (October 1870). When she marries William Henry Brooks (1924) and later when she marries Stanley Searle (1927) her father's occupation is horse cab proprietor and cab proprietor respectively. He is shown as deceased on the 1924 so obviously on the latter too.

Regards
Cheryl
