Sowerby Bridge/Skircoat

Can you clarify for an outsider:

Is Skircoat part of Sowerby Bridge or a completely separate entity?

Im confused as a birth certificate I received from the GRO lists the place of birth as:

17 East Parade
Skircoat
Sowerby Bridge
U.S.D.

I've never associated Skircoat with Sowerby Bridge other than it's quite near, and East Parade is certainly in Sowerby Bridge (1905 Ordnance Survey Map of Sowerby Bridge)  - it's still in existence today, if you have a look at Mr G...@s maps.

As I point out on my Calderdale Companion website, historically, the Skircoat district of Calderdale has included, all or parts of Bolton Brow, Burnley Road, Copley, Heath, Highroad Well, King Cross, Salterhebble, Shaw Hill, Skircoat Green, and Sowerby Bridge.
Surname interests:

Huntingdon: Bull / Shelford
Rotherham: Andrews / Steel
Easingwold: Snowball / Potter
