John BERRY and Rosina
« on: Thursday 21 March 13 13:06 GMT (UK) »
Please can you find early records and/or marriage details for John Berry and Rosina.
John Berry, b. Chard, Somerset, abt 1827. (Died 1900, occupation Mariner, Engine Driver - Steam Ship.)
He married Rosina (aka Rose) abt. 1848. (Family believe she was possibly from a German family named Schaffer or similar; 1911 census records married 63 yrs.)
Rosina, b. Bristol abt 1827, is listed in the 1871 census, 44, married with children at 6 William Street, Bristol (RG10/2561/60 p 9), but John is not listed there.
John and Rosina are listed at the same address in census 81 & 91.
Rosina is at the same address with her daughter's family in census 1901 & 11, she died in 1917.
Thanks, Jeff

A birth cert of one of their children would give Rosina's maiden name, and therefore help find her.

It's possible they didn't actually marry officially but lived as husband and wife  :)

Is Clara the oldest child born about 1861?  Seems odd if they married around 1848 - or were older children born before her  :-\

There is a family tree on Ancestry ( O'Keefe) that has a John Berry married to a Rosina Avenall b.1827 d.1917. They had 5 children, Clara Jane, Charles, Matilda, Albert and Emily. Could this be them/her?

Oh so in 1864 she was still married to George - what happened to him? *

Thinking even more now she never married John Berry.

* George seems to be around for the next few census lodging at places in Bristol but not married  :-\
