Occupation Help
« on: Thursday 21 March 13 14:59 GMT (UK) »
Can anyone help me with what the occupations are please? Especially what it says on the first line above the 'Carpenter & farmer of 81 employing 4 la' and the ends of the bottom two please. The last one looks like 'the farm carpenters journeyman'?

Many thanks

Hi,

Master Carpenter & Farmer of 81 [acres] employing 4 [labourers]

Alfred = Carpenters son

Charles = Farmers son enploy upon the Farm

Peter = Carpenters' Journeyman.

Note words on first line  [ ] are my suggestion as to what is missing and the abbreviation of La.

Hi,

My understanding is that a Journeyman had served an apprenticeship, but was not yet a
master carpenter.

He could charge for his work, often lived in the house of his employer.
