Can you spot my Great Grandfather in the 14th Hussars?
« on: Monday 25 March 13 18:14 GMT (UK) »
I have been given two photos showing my Great Grandfather William Burness McMeeking born 1882.
The portrait was taken in 1941 when he was aged 59.
The second photo is of his regiment, the 14th Hussars, around 1902, so he would have been around 20 years old.
The photos came from his house and I know from the records that he definitely served in the 14th Hussars. Unfortunately there is nothing on the photo to indicate which soldier is my great grandfather!
I think I can spot him but I wanted a second opinion from the keen eyes of the Rootschat community.
So which soldier is he?

Hard to choose, and when the regiment photo is enlarged it loses clarity. Still, I thought the first man on the right standing behind the bench.

Hi Gow
My immediate reaction is he might be 3rd from the left on the top row...... but take this from someone who thought she could spot her own grandfather in a crowd but who has been puzzling over a 1916 photo of his regiment that she was given a few days ago......
Don't forget to let us know which soldier you think William is :-)

Could be the gentleman in the back row: the third in, from the right.
