Soldier served in BurmaWW2

Please could some tell me how I can find which regiment a soldier belonged to.

I have tried searching miltary records on 2 sites but he does not  appear to be listed on either.

The person I am trying to find is John Bentley. b1921 West Ham. (now Newham)

Any help would be appreciated.

It's a long shot but if he married or had children then there might be a reference on the certificate.

Thanks Jan,  He did marry and have a child.
 I had his marriage cert many years ago but dont remember there being anything on it regarding his service No.-no longer have that now.

Might have to think about ordering another cert if nothing else turns up.

Did he survive the war? if not he may be on CWGC site, or is that one of the ones you have already searched?

I have tried those sites but he didn't show up. He did survive the war and only died in 1997.
