Will wait until after Easter to see what else is found and then it will be ordering the birth cert.
Such an unusual name that it could be mis transcribed.
Thanks, Josie

Hi

I think the 1901 lady found in East Molesey could be your Merle, another site has her transcribed as Ursulie & there does seem to be an L & an I in the name. :-\ As you say, an easy name to mis transcribe.

Minnie was the daughter of Mary Lewis according to Family Search but I can't find her after 1881 to confirm. ???

Not sure if this helps at all.

Hi again

Could this be Murlie/Merle in 1891 indexed as Mustie Lewis on FindMyPast. ???

RG12/37 f121 p56

Living in Hammersmith, a domestic servant to a Jane A Ayling. I think it says born in Little Hadham. :-\

Right again Maddie.  You have a nose for this. Poor little tot being a servant at 11 years of age. Certainly looks like she was not wanted or cared for by her mother whoever she was. Now I really must send for the birth cert and will let you all know. J.

It is so sad that she was a servant at such a young age. Look forward to finding out who her mother was. :-\ I'm thinking her middle name Graham must be significant somehow. ???

Now found her sister Minnie. They were both with grandma in 1881.  Minnie married Charles Taylor Nov 19th 1899 and her father was Alfred Lewis deceased, carpenter. So now have a link with the two girls. All I need to do is go back further to try and find Alfred Lewis and his marriage. J

Let us know when you get the birth certificate.  :)

I can't see a christening of an Alfred Lewis to Daniel & Susan on familysearch, the other children are there.

There's a Minnie about the right age ib the St Albans' workhouse in 1891 - I do doubt Alfred's existance

Minnie is transcribed as Mary on 1901 - in Walton on Thames with Charles. I doubt she has a lot of knowledge of her background as she only gives her place of birth as Hertfordshire and her age is a bit variable on 1901 &1911
