Marriage Bans decipher
« on: Saturday 30 March 13 14:27 GMT (UK) »
Hello
I wonder if anyone can decipher the handwritten note in the right hand margin of the Banns. I see the first word as 'forbid' and the last two as 'sober man' ?
The marriage did not take subsequently take place there.
Thanks

Re: Marriage Bans decipher COMPLETED WITH THANKS

Thanks so much Ava :)  You deciphered it whilst I was still trying to post a better image.  Yes that makes sense of a puzzle.  Strange that the father read the banns and then forbade the marriage.  They married 10 months later.  Thanks you again

I wouldn't infer that he read the banns. The other banns entries are not signed by the person reading them.  Perhaps John Vause was asked to endorse the register entry as the non-consenting father?

Yes avm - I am beginning to understand the situation.  Marianne's mother had died in Paris the day before the first banns were called - But it all ended happily ever after and John Vause eventually baptised the couple's three children :)
Thanks again for your help
