1841 Gloucestershire Census job is.....?
« on: Saturday 30 March 13 15:04 GMT (UK) »
On A******* 1841 census for Bisley Glocestershire, piece 349, Bk 14, folio 37 p.4, there are three "Bassett"s. I can't "read" the occupation for Samuel (60). Richard, he's a labourer, and I'm sure Elizabeth is a wool-winder, but I can't make anything of Samuel's job. Could anyone please spare the time to take a look and give me their best guess?

Also interested in Leigh& Burrows,(Lancashire) Griffiths (Shropshire & lancs), Leaver (Lancs/Yorks) & Anderson(Cumberland and very elusive)

Thank you all. I thought at first it may have been "army" but couldn't make sense of it at his age. I'd have thought "Army pensioner" more appropriate to him at that time, unless he was as active as a modern 60 year old!.

I think they were rather minimal in 1841 with job descriptions!

Probably. Better really than "Rodent destruction operative" for "ratcatcher", though! Too many words resulting in overblown titles today. Thanks.
