Probate Interpretation - hopefully simple!
« on: Saturday 30 March 13 15:42 GMT (UK) »
"Tomlinson William - 18 February [1888] Administration of the Personal Estate of William Tomlinson late of London Road Hazel Grove in the County of Chester Draper who died 10 January 1886 at London Road was granted at Chester to Jane Woodcock (wife of Edwin Thomas Woodcock) (heretofore Tomlinson, Widow) of Brewers Green Hazel Grove the Relict. Personal Estate - £40"

The above appears in the probate registry for 1888. Just so I'm clear, do you agree that William's widow "Jane" had re-married, to "Edwin Thomas Woodcock", after William died but before probate was granted?

Thanks
Ray

Yes she did remarry, it says she is the relict which means she is the widow, or the surviving partner of William Tomlinson

Thanks Stan,

That might take some sorting out, I'm pretty sure his wife was "Mary" - at least according to the 1881.

The date of death ties in with his MI and he's buried with his parents and mother's youngest son by her first marriage. Back to the drawing board!

Maybe Mary died and he remarried to Jane sometime between the 1881 census and his own death in 1886?

A tree on Anc lists Edwin Thomas Woodcock as marrying Jane Hallworth, in 1887 so maybe the last marriage Marmalady listed as a good option

Is Mary the 32 year old with kids James and Edith in 1881?

If so she seems to die on 28th Dec 1884 age 35 at Bramhall.

Buried in Norbury (near Stockport).
