Daniel Mann of Dum Fries
« on: Sunday 31 March 13 14:48 BST (UK) »
I'm looking for info on my grandfather, Daniel Mann.  He was born in 1901 and had a sister Charlotte.  They both moved to Ontario, Canada.  He was from Dum Fries.  I have no other info on the family.  No one talked about him or his relatives.  Any free sites I can go to?

Hi , welcome to RootsChat  :)

Not a free site but costs are reasonable http://www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk/

You will be able to download his birth certificate which should give you his parents and their date of
marriage.
Daniel Mann birth 1901 Dumfries , Dumfries

Thanks.  I was afraid to start paying and getting lots of incorrect info.  Once I start researching I get addicted to it and I could spend the day doing it.

Hi

I was about to post this:

If he married a Lillian May Parker in Ontario, there  possibly is an online tree for him - born 2 Dec 1901, Dumfries. Parents - Daniel Mann (1877-1920) and Elizabeth Henderson (1869-1828). More info via Mundia:

Looks like the family are in England on the 1911 Census.
Ancestry have free access this weekend to that Census , you will have to search for DaMiel Mann age 10.

I never thought of checking the English census.  If my grandfather lived in England that would explain ow he met my grandmother who is English.  I will try that avenue.  Thanks!
