Was reading your post and the name Mann seem to ring a bell.

Not sure whether this will help. Found this on the Dumfries District 1912 Directory:

Lockerbie Road.
MANN Robt.G  newspaper manager, Cairnsmore (probably name of house). Wonder if this Robert was Daniel's father.

Possibly a different family, cupcake.

I forgot to follow this up - must have been away - think it was around Easter time.

Daniel's marriage to Lillian in September 1923, Toronto  York, has his parents as Daniel Mann and Elizabeth Henderson as in the online trees above.

Also, I think that Daniel and the family moved to  Gateshead, Co. Durham:

Just thought this Robert being in Dumfries, might have been connected. There are 2 Daniel Mann births on SP for 1891- 1901.

Was worth a try.

I've got the 1901 on SP - it's the one that is mentioned - 2 Dec 1901, Wallace Street, Dumfries.
Parents - Daniel Mann, mason and Elizabeth m.s. Henderson.Married 29 April 1896, Edinburgh.

Have to go watch a footie match  now
