Completed with Thanks - Eleanor Cornforth, b.abt 1799
« on: Sunday 31 March 13 17:25 BST (UK) »
Hi

Can anyone help me with Eleanor's parents, please?

I have her on the 1841 census married to William Snowdon, and from the IGI I have their marriage in 1817 in Sunderland.  William and Eleanor lived in Monk Wearmouth and all their children appear to have been born there.  On the 1841 census, William is NOT born in County, but Eleanor is.

I've tried the FS website and although they have a couple of Eleanor Cornforths, they're much too early to be the one I'm looking for.

Any help greatly appreciated.

Thanks

She's "40", but what with the 1841s rounding up/down, it's hard to say what her exact age is.  Although given that she was married in 1817, I suspect that she was born before 1799.

> Could she have been a widow?
Suppose it's possible, BUT William and Eleanor gave one of their sons Cornforth as a middle name, so probably not.

Durham Records Online have the marriage and also a Marriage Banns for same year, abode Ropery.
Unfortunately I don't have any credits left to look at the banns to see if the parents are mentioned. It costs £4.50 to look at 4 records

She's "40", but what with the 1841s rounding up/down,

In the 1841 census ages were rounded down so someone whose age was entered as 40 could actually have been anything up to 44 years of age.

Marriage records around that time didn't have fathers' names on, so I think I'm out.
