Okay, this is the inside-the-front-cover page of a charming little Psalms & Hymns book which my mother had. Very old, and unfortunately the book itself has separated from the cover. The book is only 3 inches high.

My mother didn't know who Maria Booth was. How I wish I could tell her that Maria was her gggrandmother.

So, is it my imagination, or is there a VERY faint bit of writing just above Maria's name, running off to the right? Could be pencil. I have tried to enhance it but the only software I have is Microsoft Photo Editor, which doesn't show much.

Rescanned in 48-bit colour.

Any theories, as usual however wild, gladly entertained

Perhaps it's erased pencil script  can sort of make out what could be lettering but definitely unreadable! ... sad to hear your mum didn't know the origin and you're itching to tell her! ... how old would Maria have been at that date? interesting, thinking youngish? neat hand but the little face peeking out of the squiggle

Yes, isn't that sweet? She'd have been 20, actually!

I thought it might be erased as well, and possibly Maria did her squiggles to cover up the evidence

I thought, just thought mind you, that I might be able to see an e and an a, then a curvy letter going up, at the right hand edge of the page. Just my imagination? I do have quite a few Sheards in the family, but in 1824 they'd have been on the wrong side of the family

  In the meantime we all had to use real imagination with no pic at all!

I do see slightly more of the pencil outlines now but still indecipherable...

I had a look and at first thought it was Booth rubbed out!

Looking closer i began to imagine faces and all sorts like a childs scribble?  but it could be the way the dirt has formed, so sorry no help
