=====================================================
John Wilking, Aged Citizen
Mr. John Wilking, senior, 80 aged and well known resident of this city, where he had spent the past sixty years of his life, died Sunday morning at 8 o’clock at his residence No. 324 Sixth Street.  Death was due to complication of troubles due to advance age.
Mr. Wilking was born in Mehlbach, Bavaria, Germany on April 6, 1836 and was close to eighty years of age.  He was the last of a family of twelve children to survive.
When twenty years old, Mr. Wilking came to this country with two sisters. They at once came to Washington county, locating at Marietta where the deceased spent the remaining years of his life.  He was a well-known railroad man in the vicinity, and for 29 years held the position of Section Foreman on the Baltimore & Ohio Branch, running out of this city. He has been retired from service the last 16 years.
Mr. Wilking was a veteran of the Civil War in the last three years of which he took part in many battles.  He belonged to the 39th Regiment [O V I].  He was a member of the [ ….] Corps of the G. A. R. and also one of the oldest local members of the Odd Fellows.  He had belonged to that order for the past […6] years.  He was also a [….] member of the St. Luke’s Lutheran Church.
In April of 1867 the deceased was united in marriage to Miss Magdalena Schwabe in this city. Their surviving children are Elizabeth and John Wilking Jr, both of this city; Mrs. Lena Krueger of Indianapolis; and Henry P Wilking of New York.  He is also survived by his widow.
The funeral will be held from the residence at two o’clock central time Wednesday afternoon. Burial will be made in the Mound cemetery.  Rev. Robert T Vurburg will officiate.

 OVI = Ohio Volunteer Infantry
The Grand Army of the Republic, google Washington County Corps of the GAR although it doesn't mention his name there may be other routes through their libraries that can help.
