Help deciphering occupation!
« on: Thursday 04 April 13 10:54 BST (UK) »
Hi, I was wondering if anyone could help decipher the occupation of Frederick Clarke (bottom name) on the attached certificate?! I can't work it out for the life of me and it's starting to drive me insane!  :) Any help much appreciated!

Hi Rosie! Thanks!

I originally thought it said that too but on previous census' it says he's a 'gate fitter' so thought it would be a drastic career change?!  ???

Hi and Welcome  :)

I thought it was  TurnerFarmer until I looked at the F in Frederick. I think it could be Turner - see http://rmhh.co.uk/occup/t.html

Ah yes Turner looks very likely - It could be the lathe reference which would link up with previously being a 'gate fitter'. I'll see if I can upload the rest of the certificate to compare with other T's.  :)

Although it's quite different from the F in Frederick
