Non-Conformist Records?
« on: Sunday 07 April 13 00:54 BST (UK) »
Hello!
After quite a while of searching for information on my brick wall of an ancestor, i discovered that his burial record was also recorded on a Non-Conformist register (RG4)
of course non-conformist was someone whom was not generally of the CoE and the records were non-parochial.
could this be why i've struggled to find a parish record for his birth? if his death is on this register does it mean he's a non-conformist? so would there be no record?
Would being a non-conformist have been much of a big deal during the early-mid 1800s?
His name was Andrew Fraser (misspelled frasey on a list i've seen) buried 5 Aug 1853 and born 1810
if someone could get more information on his burial and on non-conformists in general i would be appreciative :)

Thanks in advance

Joel

Hi

Have you found him on the 1851 census? If so, where was he born? The name indicates possible Scottish connection in which case he could be Church of Scotland which would mean he was non-conformist in England.

There is a lot of information on non-conformists in the Rootschat Reference Library

Thank you stan I'll have a look :)

To Andy, his birth is listed as being in Manchester,Lancashire on the 1851 census :)
I have no idea of his parentage, so unsure of his Scottish connection
Would the burial record tell me what non conformist group he belonged to?

He's buried at the Great Bridgwater street Wesleyan chapel, if that helps :)

In the 1851 Religious Census for Manchester the Church of England had 20 places of worship and the non-conformists 85. The Wesleyan Methodists had 18.

Quite a large denomination then

What would the record tell me if I bought it?
I found the preview via family search
Which just told me the burial date
Because I don't want to purchase it and find out nothing!
Would it be like a normal burial record?
