printing from r/chat - simple machines
« on: Sunday 07 April 13 01:22 BST (UK) »
Hi all,
I've just printed off some replies to a request I made and noticed that at the bottom of the page there are some entries;
SMF 2.0.4, SMF @ 2013, "Simple Machines"

By clicking on either takes you to R/Chat or the  Software company of Simple Machines. I hadn't noticed these before today and wondered if anyone else had seen this software being added to any printing?

I haven't installed this "Simple Machines" software as I wasn't aware of it and more importantly I would like to prevent further printing from being annotated this way.
Does anyone have any ideas??

SMF is the software that runs the whole forum. It is not just to do with the printing.

It's only written in very small letters at the bottom when you print. It might not even be possible for the site owners to change this even if they wanted to. If you really want it gone, you can copy and paste the text that you would like printed into a Word document, and remove any of the bits you don't like such as the SMF line.

Hi Ribbo
If you are a Firefox user there is a very useful add-on called PrintEdit which would let you to remove from the print stream practically anything you don't want on the page: graphics, coloured rulings, etc. just leaving the material you want to print.

There may well be similar things for some other  browsers, I couldn't say as I'm a dyed in the wool Firefox fanatic.

Hi to you both,

Thanks for your replies.

I've just found some old  replies I had and sure enough at the bottom of the last printed sheet
is SMF etc. in smaller type,   something I hadn't noticed in the past.

Alan - I do have and sometimes use Firefox but am using Safari which on an iMac seems to work
slightly better.

Hi ribbo,
Since both Safari and Firefox run on the same Gecko "engine" there may well be a similar Safari add-on for this and several other useful functions ;-). suggest you keep an eye open for them!

Hi,

I am on a Macbook Air, and when I press "print" at top of this page I get the
SMF 2.0.4, SMF @ 2013, "Simple Machines"  at the bottom of the page without
printing. I have tried but cannot delete before printing either.

Maybe Trystan can remove it, i don't see the need for the advertisement there.

Well it wasn't an advert (as such), it was a credit put in by the fab software people who make the forum software - simple machines.

Anyhow, Tis gone.  ;)
