I have searched and searched but...
« on: Sunday 07 April 13 09:23 BST (UK) »
Hi all,

I was wondering if anyone could help me with this marriage that I am unable to locate on any of the usual sites please.

I ordered a birth certificate for my Timothy Morgan born 2nd November 1838 in the sub district of Llanvihangel Crucorney and the parish of Llanthewy Skinid (sp). It states his father as being Thomas Morgan, Labourer and Mother Mary Morgan formerly Dew.

They had an older son Called William who was born c. 1834 so at a guess I would put the marriage ( if there was one) just prior to that possibly).

I just cannot seem to find a Mary Dew marriage that would even fit so any help with this would be gratefully received!

Perhaps the Parish Registers for the parish they married in just aren't online anywhere yet.

Family history research can't always all be done via internet.

Edmonds/Edmunds - mainly Sussex
DeBoo - London
Green - Suffolk
Parker - Sussex
Kemp - Essex
Farrington - Essex
Boniface - West Sussex

census information is Crown Copyright from www.nationalarchives.gov.uk

Yes, that's a strong possibility. Due to the common Morgan name I am not holding out much hope with this line of research just yet. I need to familiarize myself with the areas of this line as this is my only branch which is in the Monmouth area so I am still learning.

Thanks :)

if I'm looking a tthe correct family in 1841, (Manmoel HO107/750/10 folio 12 pg 13, William is enumerated as 13, and he and Thomas and Mary are shown as not born in county, so no reason to think that the marriage took place there. 1851 census shows all 3 as born in Herefordshire.

I have Monmouthshire marriages 1813-1837 and the marriage isn't there, so I'd say try Herefordshire, as I said before.

Thanks! I am getting confused with my districts as the birth certificate says Monmouth and Hereford so I was assuming it was the same place/area.

I found lots of possibilities before the name Dew appeared and now none of those match so I am back to square one lol.

Back to the drawing board I think as there seems to be quite a few Dews in the Ross on Wye area at the right time so I think thats where it may lead me eventually!

that's the registration district, not the counties. Have a look on a map.

Your Morgans aren't consistent in their ages, 1841 has them at (rounded down to) 40, so 40 - 45 and 1851 has them at 60, and that doesn't seem likely for mary as there is a 6 year old daughter. There's a possible for Thomas in 1871 in Manmoel with a birthplace of Huisharold which I suspect is an approximation of Ewyas Harold in Herefordshire.

Possible baptisms for Mary & there may be more, not on FamilySearch
https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/J9W2-85L  - in Ross, bit old for daughter Mary in 1844ish?

https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/NK55-9B3  - in Llanwarne

https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/NR8R-ZFG - in Llangarren, mother marries a couple of months later

Thank you very much, the maps are a huge help to me!

I am wondering if death certificates would be a good way of possibly finding a more accurate year of birth for them and go from there? I know there were cholera outbreaks at Sirhowy Iron works so maybe they died from that which can help me pin point the right family.

I could have done with some nice unusual surnames to help me in this major task :)

Thanks for the help, it's very much appreciated!!!

depends if the person registering their deaths knew their ages.  Unless the death was registered by a family member, you wouldn't know if you had the correct Thomas or Mary.

Possible?

On either the 1841 or 1851 census it gives the address as being a number, 372 Sirhowy I think it was. I will have to check the images to be 100% but I wonder if the workers houses were numbered? On the other census I have them at Abergavenny road so maybe that would help find a death certificate if I follow the line of research via the address???

I don't seem to have images for 1861, 71 or 81 as I wasn't able to find them on those so the 1880 you have found is a possibility! I have a feeling I will be applying for random certificates for quite some time LOL  ;D
