Birth Registration of Twins
« on: Sunday 07 April 13 19:29 BST (UK) »
I was always under the impression that twins are given the same registration numbers - but I sent for 2 birth certificates with the same registration numbers, but they aren't twins.   The surnames are the same and the fathers are brothers.   Does anyone know, please, why they would have the same Nos.?    :-\ :-\ :-\

Many thanks - Margaretmarion

The GRO Index gives the volume and page number of the registration, so both births were apparently registered on the same page. There are about ten births or so to a page.

Do you mean that the freebmd reg info was the same for both of them?

If they were related families and both sets of parents went together to register the births - irrespective of the birth dates it can appear to be a twin reg

Thank you all very much indeed for the very quick replies.
Yes, they were both registered on the same day, born 8 days apart, and the families probably went together to register the births and that is why they had the same genreg No.
Thanks again - Margaretmarion
