Stephen and Elizabeth Quinn...help
« on: Monday 08 April 13 09:28 BST (UK) »
I can't find a record of these people anywhere!
He was a merchant seaman.
Her maiden name was Crowe or Crouse
They had a son in 1924
They died before 1952

Don't know where they lived or were born or any dates etc.

Can anyone shed some light on these people?

Thank you

you will probably need a bit more detail to start a search - e.g. where was the son born ? where did Stephen and Elizabeth get married ?, where did they live later etc  ?

Might be an idea to follow up on later records of the couple, e.g. death certs, to try to work out approximately when they were born. Depending on where they ended up death certs may also give details of parents... Also their marriage cert - usually would give father's names at least

Your dates are well after the available census, and also after most of the Irish online parish records, so any births or marriages will require a search of the BMD Index (which is on FamilySearch), and ordering certs to see if the details match up with your clues.

Crowe or Crouse would be the less common surname, so I'd suggest focusing on these as there should be fewer results to check out.

links to Various related Topics - seems the son married in Scotland, so if the parents lived there death certs for them should show parents names.

I had a look at the thread with the excerpt of the Scottish marriage certs - and I would think Elizabeth's maiden name looks more like 'Crouse' than Crowe.. The 's' in the surname looks very similar to the 's' in deceased.

The surname Crowse or Crouse doesn't seem to occur on any records on the Irish civil BMD Index, but alternative suggested by the search is Cruise. Quite possibly a phonetic interpretation on the surname. Cruise is not that common a surname, and nowhere near as frequent as Quinn..

There are nearly 16,000 people on the Irish 1911 census with the surname Quinn, and just under 500 with the surname Cruise.

Not sure if you've already tried, but I think it would be worth checking for the marriage of Stephen & Elizabeth in Scotland - also for the sons birth.

I am really struggling with these people. The son got married in Edinburgh in 1952 to a girl 10 years younger that I am pretty sure was from Ireland (co down) - still researching this. I have a feeling they may of met in Ireland and moved to Scotland...maybe something to do with the her being 18 and him 28 (in 1952) - only an assumption though.
