The Horsburghs were a prominant family in that part of the Scottish Borders. They build http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nether_Horsburgh_Castle amongst others, which according to that article, they sold to Sir Robert Stewart of Shillingshaws.

What connecting Alexander Horsburgh has to this is not my guess.

Yes we g
have been fortunate that because they were a prominent family we have been able to trace them even further on their maternal sides thro'  Christian Horsburgh nee Stewart and Jean Horsburgh nee Riddell, but the actual Horsburgh/Horsbruik family are traceable for only a few more generations back.

This is the only side of my family that I can trace back that far  :(

Dear Marybeth,

I first saw your post about this midway through last year and something made me revisit it today.

Congratulations to your nephew on finding the marriage contract.

I was wondering if if would be possible to either to obtain a copy of the marriage contract from you or details of the reference in order to get my own copy from the National Archives of Scotland? There would be quite a few Horsburgh descendants, myself included, with an interest in this, and I would be willing to make a contribution, both towards getting a copy and towards the translation. Although I'm not sure how that would be achieved when we're not supposed to exchange email addresses? However, I imagine with a reference it would probably save the archives staff time/make it much easier to retrieve the same information.

Dear Lesley,
I will refer you to my nephew as he would have all the details.  I do have a copy but don't like to forward it to you myself as he paid for it.  It is in old scots and at present I think we are still waiting on Malcolm Horsburgh translating it.

Can I send you a private message ?  Also what part of the family are you from as we maybe able to help on another.  I have an ancestry tree which I am happy to ivite you to if you like.

I am a descendant of James Horsburgh.
Birth 18 Apr 1817 in PARISH OF DALKEITH, MIDLOTHIAN, SCOTLAND
Death 30 May 1886 in Bailieston, Vic, Australia.

James married Margaret Henderson
1838 23 April
New Greyfriars Church Edinburgh, Scotland.

James was also a descendant of Alexander Horsburgh and Christian Stewart.

Is there any chance you can share the document around their marriage? I to had wanted to see proof of this relationship.

Happy to share what I have on Horsburgh family in Australia.

My mother is Doris Horsburgh born in Glasgow 79yrs old today. We live in Caanda. Her mother was Mary Horsburgh and dad Joseph Horsburgh. Hope this helps. Bryan
