Alexander Braid born abt 1845 Stirlingshire

I am helping my friend look into her husband's Braid family and I got to this chap above - Alexander Braid, he was born abt 1845 I presume Stirlingshire, he married Margaret Lowrie in 1881 in Cathcart Lanarkshire and on their marriage certificate he states his parents as Alexander Braid and Elizabeth Carmichael and that he was resident in Banton Stirlingshire. I am unable to find any reference to his birth on the Scotlands People site - (i admit to being a newbie on this particular site), in the census I cant find him with his parents but think I have found him with this father (Alexander Braid poss born abt 1825 Cumbernauld Dunbartonshire) in 1851 and possibly 1861 but his father says he is unmarried in the census. I am also unable to find any marriage reference for an Alexander Braid and Elizabeth Carmichael. Is there something really obvious that I have missed.

I've had a look on www.freecen.org.uk  and I think I found both Alexanders in Banton, Kilsyth , Stirlingshire.
Mary Braid age 63 widow......born Gargunnock, Stirlingshire
Alexander Braid age 27 son unmarried.....Born Kilsyth, Stirlingshire
Agnes Braid age 17 daughter unmarried .....born Kilsyth, Stirlingshire
Alexander Braid age 6 son.........................born Kilsyth, Stirlingshire       Note in margin suggests he is

Also found Alexander snr (I think on 1841 Census) in Cumbernauld, Dunbartonshire

Alexdr. Braid age 15 Hand Loom Weaver  Born Dunbartonshire.
He is listed with his mother -transcribed as Mrs Braid/ no forename- and 3 siblings Mary age 20, John age 12 and Agness age 7.

It is possible that Alexander b.1846 is illegitmate and is Alexander snr's son being brought up by his paternal grandmother and father (a similar scenario happened in one of my lines of my family).
But it could also be that sister Mary - absent from the 1851 Census could be his mother.

Hiya, that was beginning to be my thoughts that he was illegitimate.. though felt it was unusual that he lived with the father in that case.. unless the mother had died. V

1881 Census Alex is with the Chapmans in Kilsyth.
Looks to me that Agnes Chapman is Alexanders Sister as her POB/DOB match the info Looby found;

"He is listed with his mother -transcribed as Mrs Braid/ no forename- and 3 siblings Mary age 20, John age 12 and Agness age 7."

This looks to be them in 1861;
