George Pearson Barratt 1811
« on: Tuesday 09 April 13 21:17 BST (UK) »
Hi Everyone
I see that Newport Pagnell comes under Bucks and Northants which in a way answers some of my problem, but when did it switch Counties?

I'm looking for where George Pearson Barratt and Enoch Pearson Barratt were born.

In 1841 they were both living in separate households in Newport Pagnell and both said they were from out of the County.

By 1851 they were both in prison and both of them are listed as coming from Northampton, Northamptonshire. But during their trial a witness said that George was born within 3 miles of Newport Pagnell

In short what I am after is.
1 Date of County boundary change
2 Where was George Pearson Barratt (abt1811) and Enoch Pearson Barratt (abt1814) born

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks all, very helpful

CaroleW- Yes George is on the 1861 census but he gives his place of birth as Newport Pagnell from then on and of course his brother Enoch is in Australia.

Sandra- I did know 2 of the 3 links and it is the right Enoch in Australia. I had discounted the Enoch from Piddington in 1851 as my Enoch was in Prison and recorded there but perhaps his wife decided that he was head of the house and insisted on him being on the census. All the known information fits.

Trish-That's a new one on me, very interesting, I'm going to check it out.

Thanks again everyone, moving in the right direction I feel.

Hi.

Borri, I think Enoch's birthplace may be PODINGTON (Puddington) in Beds
not PIDDINGTON in Northants although it is on the way to Newport P.

Never heard of Newport P being anywhere other than Bucks.

Others may dis-agree.

I know this is off topic but the Bucks board has villages and towns that are
in Northants in the listing for that county also.

Brackley, Newport Pagnell, Potterspury

Also Hunts.
Oundle, Peterborough, (Soke of)  Stamford, (part of) Thrapston

And these have never been in Northants.
Banbury, (Oxon) Lutterworth, Market Harborough, (Leics) Rugby, (Warks),
Uppingham, (Rutland)

Therefore it is confussing.  :

Borri, as you may well have realised, the PR coverage for Buckinghamshire & Northamptonshire is rather sparce on IGI.

It may be worthwhile contacting the Centre for Buckingham Studies http://www.buckscc.gov.uk/bcc/archives/Centre_for_Buckinghamshire_Studies.page
as they hold an online copy of the PR transcriptions completed by the Bucks FHS http://www.bucksfhs.org.uk/index.php?option=com_content&task=blogcategory&id=17&Itemid=199

Having been stuck on Buckinghamshire families for a couple of years, I cleared almost every brickwall in a few hours and on the ones I could not clear, I at least gained some thoughts for further investigation.

It is also possible that they were born in Northants, again another brickwall visit, there is a CD of baptisms available but from my own experience it is only available for use by staff at the Archives. I found this rather odd and did wonder if I had misunderstood, however worth a call http://www.northamptonshire.gov.uk/en/councilservices/community/archives/pages/default.aspx

Finally, NP has been in Bucks for 'ever' but the Northants border is only 5 miles away

Good luck & I hope this helps

We have the brilliant Northants Indexes of Baptisms
Marriages and Burials that have been transcribed by 2
Rootschatters, therefore the coverage for Northamptonshire
is extremely good. :)  Also N.F.H.S., Freereg and the
Northants Look Up Exchange.

There is no reference to the family of them being in Northants.
