Somerset Historical Directories

Have a record taken from www.historicaldirectories.org Kellys` Directory of Somerset 1897.  I tried to get information about James McClay Sandford ? page 37 However I have not been able to find information relating to James McClay Sandford. I think perhaps every page relating to VILLAGES may have to be searched. I found information page 39 about other people with surname Sandford.

Can you tell us what you know about him - birthplace, birthyear , marriage etc

The Somerset 1891 census only has 7 entries for his name ranging in birthyear from 1833 -1888 but all born Somerset

1901 has 9 entries from 1825-1896 - all b Somerset

Occupation of James McClay Sandford was Solicitor. He was mentioned on marriage certificate of his son James Sandford 1867 in Newcastle Upon Tyne. His son was then aged 23 yrs. so he was born 1843/44 I can only guess his father may have been born approx in early 18 hundreds He may not have been very young when his son married if he was a practising solicitor. I have never been able to find any records of James McClay Sandford.

A bit of a mystery. 1881 census says he was born Newcastle Upon Tyne. I sent off for birth record 2004. Years searched 1843-1845 in the records of England and Wales no record found. Some suggestions say could be Scotland. Have no idea.

As the numerous other threads looking for James McClay Sandford and his son have yeielded no results you might need to consider the possibility that the son made up his details on his marriage certificate.
Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!

Cant understand why some of his children had surname McClay on their birth records. James McClay Sandford is mentioned in ANX. Some records have surname reversed Sandford McClay. Will give it some thought.
