Hi there,
Read the info about death notices at the top of this board and then order them via the EGGSA website - they really are very reasonable and well worth the wait and money. The death notices should have the parents names listed.

Hi,,,Re  Horatio Pappin...i believe he was b 1869...his father died at sea when he was 10...he then went to an Uncle in South Africa. Worked as a stonemason in the Kimberley diamond mines. Served in the Kimberley town guard during the Boer War. Made frequent trips between Newquay and South Africa. I believe he may have married a Mabel Annie J Clemens in 1896 in Newquay..but she died almost immiediately.

Henry Pappin marries a Joanna Pollard in 1869  St Columb,Cornwall. In the 1871 census Henry is aboard ship in chichester,Sussex. He is described as married.
There is a death at sea in 1880 for a Henry Pappin aboard the ship "Sisters".
So,it is probable that Horatios parents are Henry and Joanna.

Yes, Horatio Pappin was the son of Henry & Joanna Pollard Pappin.  I didn't know that he served in the Kimberley town guard.    Do you know what uncle he went to in South Africa.

I have info. that his brother Edward (harry ) Pappin served in the Kimberley town guard.  I don't have anymore info. on Harry.

Can you tell me where you got your info. on Horatio being in the Kimberley town guard.  Horatio did marry Mabel Clemens & she died in 1896.

Thanks for all you information

Sharon
