Crockna Heaglais
« on: Sunday 14 April 13 17:28 BST (UK) »
Hello,

I am trying to track down information about John Ross, father of John Ross born either 1803 or 1807, grandfather to Eliza Ross, born 1845 in Alness, Ross & Cromerty. I believe John Ross senior  married Helen Munro (as per death certificate). IGI gives a marriage between John Ross and Helen Munro on 16 June 1792. Helen would have been 17. The age and location match other information. Batch M11081-2

John and Helen Ross were recorded in the 1841 census as living in Crockna Heaglais, but i cannot locate this hamlet. Can anyone identify where this is, please?

John Ross may have been involved in the clearances in 1845 (a John Ross shepherd wrote on the church window) but which John Ross is unclear. Any information gratefully received,

Many thanks

sally  and Bruce Ross-Smith

Many thanks for the link which connects to the info about the Clearances in this area. I'll chase up and see if the census will list the people in 1841 and see if there are other John Rosses. That just leaves the question of where the individuals ended up after the Clearance. Many thanks, Sally
