So, from Michael Quinn's records, eg his US marriage cert, or say his death cert, does either of those documents give the name of his parents?  or his immigration papers to USA ... any clues there ....

Who were the official witnesses to the US  marriage .... perhaps the elusive brother from NSW Aust may have been a witness .... if so, what was his name or at least his initial ....

What was Michael Quinn's occupation .... could his brother have trained with him and they both had same occupation?

What was Michael Quinn's middle name ..... could both brothers have same middle name ....

Cheers,  JM

To get a copy of your Michaels Baptism your Gran must have known his parents names? Methinks that you have the wrong Michael Quinn's Baptism, IE wrong age and no siblings.  :o

Perhaps a note to the parish Church now may elicit a correct response. ::)

A possible place of marriage of the elusive brother. Maybe an email to the Parish which would be St Mary's Cathederal Sydney.

Sands NSW Alpha Directory for 1930

Among the many entries for QUINN was this one .....

J QUINN, grocer, 473 Crown St ..... the suburb is NOT listed, which indicates it was within the then boundaries of the City of Sydney (these are legal boundaries which have been known to be change frequently due to political decisions) ....

I am sure that Neil will say .... that address could well be Woolloomooloo .... fingers crossed we can find some further info about the grocer ....

I am sure of one thing.......You could buy more than Groceries in Crown Street Woolloomooloo in 1930, most of which was not quite legal.  :o
473 Crown is in Surry Hills and would be nice walk up the hill about a Kilometer from the waters edge. ;D

:) Thanks so much for all of the great ideas.  Michael's death cert lists his mother's maiden name as Mary Keogh but that is the name on the baptism cert that we now think is not for the right Michael. The state of New Jersey could not find a marriage license for him and his wife Bridget Brady when I sent for that.  He could speak Gaelic and English but he could not read or write. One census lists him as a factory foreman, another as a factory watchman.  I have not yet checked his immigration/naturalization papers so thanks for that tip to find parents.  Thanks again all for your tips and support!  E

Here are some mentions of Quinn and Woolloomooloo (within 10 words) in newspapers.

There are a few possibilities  .... interesting reading anyway.

I wouldn't put 473 Crown Street near Woolloomooloo!
Postcode Surry Hills 2010, Woolloomooloo 2011

I wouldn't fancy the 'walk up the hill' Neil   ;D  ;D  ;D

In the 1930s would they have lived above the shop?  In Surry Hills?
