MARY WILSON - CENSUS
« on: Monday 15 April 13 11:53 BST (UK) »
I am trying to find information on Mary WILSON (b -+ 1889) aged 30 when she married Alfred Edgar PLUMB in 1919.  They married in Shenley, Hertfordshire.
Her father's name was Joseph WILSON, I don't know her mother's name.  I don't know where she was born.
She and Alfred emigrated to South Africa at some point after 1924 with their children Robert Edgar and Ada Constance.
Thanks
B

The 1891 England census alone has 19 Mary Wilson's , bn within 2 years either way of 1889, living with a father Joseph.

(None of them living in Hertfordshire)

So without more details I think you are stuck.

Perhaps a look at 1911 would help (we can't do look ups) to see if she is in herts then. Still 8 years before the marriage but you never know.
Also, what occupation is given for Joseph? If that is something distinctive it might help narrow things down
Edmonds/Edmunds - mainly Sussex
DeBoo - London
Green - Suffolk
Parker - Sussex
Kemp - Essex
Farrington - Essex
Boniface - West Sussex

Yes, not a straightforward one - did Joseph Wilson's occupation get shown on Mary's Marriage Cert?

Hi

It is probably helpful to post the address(es) where they were living at time of marriage.

Their children born Whitehaven (!?) and Hendon, as was he?
What was his quoted occupation?

Yes - the children appear to have been born as above.  I don't know where they were living at the time of the marriage.
I have a piece about Alfred (Edgar) Plumb getting awarded for saving a man who fell into the Princess Dock at Govan at 12:30am on 25 March 1915  "Leading Seaman Alfred Plumb" jumped in to save him.

Yes, not a straightforward one - did Joseph Wilson's occupation get shown on Mary's Marriage Cert?

did you miss this question? If its '(Blast) Furnace worker' then this lass may be 'yours' .....

A Mary Wilson, born Hensingham Cumb. (parents Joseph & Sophia) ends up in London after 1901 ...

perhaps she went 'home' for the birth of her first child?

Thanks but I don't know what the fathers occupations were.
I am trying to assist a friend who has very little information to go on.
Thanks

From the information given in your first post we were all assuming that you (or your friend in this case) had a copy of the marriage cert.
Thus we were asking for these detais (occ of father, addresses etc) from it.

If you havent got the cert, then where did the info such as name of brides father, age of bride, etc come from?

as Lizdb has siad, the info you have most prob came from the Marriage Cert - so see if you can find out from your friend the Father's occupation shown on the Cert.... - I'm pretty confident that the Mary in question is the one mentioned from Hensingham, Cumberland.

If not, get the Cert, as that really is the only way forward.
