From that I see that among the principal local seats in Islandeady, Cloonane was (in 1837) the residence of a J O'Malley Esq.

I wonder if my John O'Malley, born around 1831, was related in someway or named for him.   ;D

I am also researching the O'Malley's of Cloonan(e). A Charles O'Malley (born c.1720) lived there, married an Alice Bourke, and is descended from Teige O'Malley c1540 as follows: Teige c1540 > Murrough c1570 > Dermot c1600 > Loughlin c1630 > Dermot c1660 > James c1690 > Charles c1720

It may be that Charles 1720 was a forbear of "J O'Malley, Esq." in 1837.

Any information on this line would be greatly appreciated.

Hi,

Have you taken a dna test? We are researching Annie O Malley b. 1850 Islandeady and her father is Charles O Malley, of Cloonane? We don't know unless we find descendants of that family

Andrea .

Hi Andrea

I run the O'Malley DNA Project and I have done a lot of research on these O'Malley's of Cloonane and I wrote it up in this blog post ...
https://omalleydnaproject.blogspot.com/2022/04/charles-omalley-of-cloonane-1779-1871.html

I also visited the area last August 2022 ... https://omalleydnaproject.blogspot.com/2022/08/a-visit-to-islandeady-and-some-new.html

Ideally we need a Y-DNA test from a male O'Malley who still lives in the area.
