Arundel Sussex- Glossop Family
« on: Monday 15 April 13 15:42 BST (UK) »
I have been researching my Glossop family based in Arundel and have got back to George Glossop  who was born in 1821 somewhere in Sussex. He was married to Eliza Forrest at St Nicholas Church Brighton in 1837 . They had 4 children George b 1837 William b 1839  Edmund b 1850  and Ann b 1853, they were all born in Arundel. However I don't seem to get beyond this, has can anyone help please?

If George & Eliza married in 1837 - he must have been born before 1821

The 1851 census shows his birthyear as 1815 and his birthplace as Arundel

1851 also gives more children as there is a Harriet between William and Edmund   All born Arundel.

Many thanks. The christenings I believe would have taken place in the private chapel of D  of Norfolk, as they were RC. I did find some reference to this many years ago at Chichester record office.Interesting how the mother's name is spelt 3 different ways.I haven't been able to find any reference to any more Glossops before the father George Glossop .

Hi

There is always the possibility that George snr was born outside Sussex in which case it could be difficult researching further without knowing his origins.

I searched for George Glossop entries on Family Search with a birthyear between 1765-1790 and just showed England as the birthplace

Derbyshire & Yorkshire seemed to be the most popular birthplaces

I agree. Loads of them in Derbyshire, had some idea, perhaps family folklore that it might be chesterfield area. Thanks anyway
