I have looked at all Williams born c 1846 and tried to trace them, and am posting this in case it works out to be your William.

1845 Edlaston one is Mar to a MARY
One born c 1845 Edale is Mar to a SARAH and in Lancashire
1851 Census has a Phoebe TUPMAN born c 1784 Chesterfield with a Ann WIGLEY born c 1847 Chesterfield, her Granddaughter.
