How to Order a Will? [Answered, thank you!]
« on: Tuesday 16 April 13 14:27 BST (UK) »
I've ordered wills from York before, but it was a long time ago, and I need a memory jog, please!

I've just found an ancestor on the Ancestry England & Wales, National Probate Calendar (Index of Wills and Administrations), 1858-1966. It hasn't got a number or anything, and says that the will was proved at the Principal Registry. My ancestor lived in Deptford, Kent in case that's important as to who would hold the will. His personal estate was worth £96 in the 1880s.

I've never heard of the Principal Registry (would that be York?), so I was wondering how do I go about ordering a copy of his will, if it's possible at all? I've done a quick Google, but haven't been able to find an address to which I can apply for the will.

All help very gratefully received.

Transcriptions and NBI are merely finding aids.  They are NOT a substitute for original record entries.
Remember - "They'll be found when they want to be found" !!!
If you don't ask the question, you won't get an answer.
