I think that Thomas David on 1851 at Old Road with wife Anne are still on 1861 and 1871 in the same area, although Thomas's occupation has changed.

Occupations did change at this time due to the move away from rural to industrial society.

On 1861, Anne David, Widow, age 68, Proprietor of Houses, was born Cadoxton so is a different person to the Anne David in Cwmbwrla on 1851, who was born Carmarthenshire.

Many thanks morganllan, Yes no doubt that is Thomas and Anne. His brother William was classed as Haulier and also Blacksmith. No doubt worked in Tinworks. Brother William stayed in Llanelly.
As ever you have been most helpful and agree Anne David - Proprietor of Houses is someone else.
So easy to be misled with names and ages. Good work spotting born Cadoxton although cannot always rely on Census info. Surname David also changed to Davies at times -most confusing.

Not sure whether these are connected because of the David/Davies/Dafydd thing, but may be worth checking via death certificates from Swansea register office. Dafydd is Welsh for David (as well as Dewi)

If you decide to send for the certificates, email them with as much information as you can so that they can confirm whether it is the right family.

Babell site is very close to the locations of Thomas and Anne in the census, so it's a good possibility. See this thread which has some photographs of the graveyard, which is very dangerous.

It is a shame that so many grave yards are neglected, and can be very dangerous. Visitors could easily twist or break an ankle or leg, or even fall into a hole, or have a monument fall on them.
