Is there a way to find out on this forum if someone is reserching or has researched the same ancestor. Thank you

You can use the Search function at the top of the page to find posts about the same ancestor, or look for surnames you have in common in the Surname Interests Table.

The Surname Interests Table (or SIT) used to be on the bar at the top of the page before "the (recent) changes". 
It just took me a few minutes to locate it (which only goes to show how often I look at the SIT):
Go to the bottom of the page, on the left inside the dark box, under 'Your Tools' you will see 'Surname Interests'.
