Hi sillgen

I've just had a double check - pretty sure it's an original.  There are six signatures.  The Vicar, the bride & groom and then three witnesses.  I've tried to compare signatures to see perhaps if maybe some one signed for Henry.   The bride & grooms are similar-ish but I think they are all different hands.

Who are the witnesses?    They are often relatives.

Hi

Of the three witnesses one we're pretty sure is sister to the bride, one appears to be the obligatory witness who appears on most of the other marriages, the other name we don't recognise.  So yes and no to that one.   ;)

Hi,

Forgot to ask this question earlier.

Who/What is the source of the information that Henry was married to Mary Kemp?  Your own family history?  Someone else's family tree?

Jann

Hi Jann

This is the problem we have found no proof of a marriage to Mary Kemp.  Did they marry? We have a marriage for a Mary Bishop and evidence that the first three children are Henry & Mary Bishop's and perhaps the fourth child as well - Then we have a v. blurry Australian dc image for George Skinner (b. 1824 #5 of Henry's children) that states his mother was Mary Kemp. We have the death of a Mary Skinner in 1842 (which Mary?) .  We have a mc for Henry with his 'second' wife Sarah Mann  in 1843.

I hang my head in shame  :-\ because for years based on the information contained on George's dc I have just assumed a marriage for Henry & Mary Kemp.

Hi Marg- No wills found for Henry.  Pretty poor family. Left England for Aus as 'assisted passengers'.  However, they certainly did well for themselves in Australia.

I don't suppose that Mary Bishop could have been a widow so maiden name Kemp?    Just a thought.

Hi

Thanks a great suggestion. No I hadn't even considered that.  I don't think so, but will have to check.  Her baptism has been found which dates her as being born in 1792 and married to Henry in 1814 which would have made her approx 22yrs old.  So I suppose it could be possible.  However, her parents are Thomas & Catherine BISHOP which suggests to me that no other marriage occurred.
