Hi Paul

I see that he's down as 56 on the 1861 and 35 (35-39 rounded down)  on the 1841   - so his birth might well be earlier than 1807. In addition to the one that Deidre lists, there are these possible births in my own Chirk records:

Bpt 13 April 1804 (b. 12 March) s/o Walter and Mary
Bpt 28 April 1805 (b. 20 April) s/o Edward and Jane

I note that he has a daughter called Jane, aged 14 on the 1851.

Also, his occupation on the 1851 and 1861 censuses  is forgeman and not journeyman. I'm still trying to work out what it is on the 1841! ( *added  - nearest I can think of is Millman)

There were many Williams in Chirk, including some of my ancestors/relatives  :)

I think that marriage to Sarah Patchett might well be the one. I've found a baptism for her in Birmingham at roughly the correct time with parents Ann and William (note their children's names!)

Could the occupation in 1841 be Drillman?

It's very odd, Roger - - the first letter looks like the capital Ms and Ws on the page.
