COMPLETED Married at Ripley before there was a church there?
« on: Saturday 27 April 13 15:05 BST (UK) »
FamilySearch has a marriage of Arthur POWELL and Sarah KNIGHT 9 June 1790 at Ripley. I don't think the Church was there until 1821. I can't find the entry as a marriage in the Pentrich St Matthew (as transcribed in Phillimore and via IGI). In fact I can't confirm the marriage from any other source.

Arthur ('80' years) and Sarah POWELL ('85' years) are in the same 'habitation' (in Sudbury) in the 1841 census so the marriage makes sense.

If the marriage took place, where would it have been conducted?

Thank you

Scropton makes sense. Their first child was christened at nearby Church Broughton.

I'll bookmark Sue Brown's site!
