Hi Di,

My Foremans also came from Shoreditch, London and are true cockneys. Have you come across a Flynn who married a Foreman in the 1890's?

regards
Shannon

Hi Shannon

I haven't so far but that doesn't mean they didn't marry someone of that name.  I have tended to stick to the direct line in order to get back as far as I can but I'm now widening my research to include the spouses of siblings so if I come acrss one I'll let you know.

What was the name of the Foreman so I can see if I have that name on my tree at least?

I have a large Rotherhithe Foreman Family, I am trying to find information on Thomas Foreman born c1825 not sure where he was born but he married a Sarah Spooner on 31/8/46 at St Pauls Deptford.
Thomas was a Sawyer and so was his father William Foreman.
This is as far as I have got.
So if anyone can shed any light on these I would be very grateful.
Many thanks.

Di,

I don't know if this is any help to you, but here goes.

My maternal grandmother was the daughter of a Neriah Holroyd, allegedly born about 1843 in Adwalton, which is just South of Leeds. Sadly, I have not yet been able to trace him any further back.

You will find the family on the 1881 census living in Wakefield. He was an unemployed blacksmith at the time.

I don't suppose there is a connection, but I was struck by the coincidence: many members of my family (particularly on my mother's side) have worked for the Yorkshire Post over the past century.

Hi Jon,

I expect there could well be some connection but I do believe that my Sarah Holroyd was born in Morley which is in the Dewsbury area I think.  at about 1839 and in fact her first child was born in Morley too.

My gg grandparents actually lived in the Yorkshire Post building with all their children.  My gg grandfather was the keeper of the building and his brother also lived with them there. He was a printer/compositor.  I contacted the Yorkshire Post to ask if they had any records but they didn't reply  >:(

Di,

Places in this part of Yorkshire are complicated. I didn't realise how much so till I started tracing my own family tree. Morley is in the ancient parish of Batley, Adwalton is in Birstall, but they're not very far apart at all. And Dewsbury's just down the road.
