I would be grateful if any ancestry detectives might be able to assist me with further information about the
Cassinello Family.
I already have details from PhotoLondon and Sussex Photographers websites, but am trying to find about the family in Essex.
Nicola Cassinello may have been born either in Italy or Hull, Yorkshire abt 1833, and was one of 6 children of Domenico (b. 1793 in Genoa, Italy) and Mary Ann Cassinello (b. 1795 in Dublin, Ireland – d. 1891 in London).
(1) Sarah Ann Cassinello abt 1830 –?
m. Antonio Scarpenti
(2) George Cassinello 1831 in Genoa, B S – 1914 in Lewisham, London
m. Mary Ann Anderson
(3) Nicola Cassinello 1833 – 1890(4) Catherine Cassinello abt 1836 in Italy? -
(5) Mary Ann Cassinello abt 1845 in Birmingham?
(6) Pope Cassinello abt 1849 in London (He could be John Stephen Cassinello?)
m. Kate Caroline Crow (1864 Sandon, Essex -)
I understand
Nicola was originally (abt 1851) a ‘Picture Frame Maker’ and I have mention of an ‘Indenture of Assignment’, Dated 1855 between a
Nicola Cassinello, Antonio Tettamanti, Giuseppe Bianchi, and Clemente Cittoni – Looking Glass Manufacturers of 13 Kirby Street, Hatton Garden.
Cannot find him in 1861 census, but have reference in Irish Church records to a baptism on 2 August 1863 of Michele Nicola Cassinello (born 29 July 1863) at St. Peter & Paul's, Cork. Parents shown as Father -
Nicola Cassinello and Mother - Mary Anne Keneally.
Around 1865, he is working as a photographer in Brighton. In 1871, he is in Castle Road Cottage, St Mary In The Castle, Hastings with his children - Dominick Cassinello (born abt 1857 in London?) and James Cassinello (born abt 1858 in Woolwich?) – mother not known.
Around 1872/73 he is at 73 North Woolwich Road, Canning Town and between 1875 – 1879 at 73 Victoria Dock Road, Canning Town. Here he is shown as both a photographer and confectioner*.
*I believe he ran an ice cream business with his son James at this time from the former address.
I not sure if there is any connection with Chovelier Cassinello (born 1843 in Italy)
and his family in Manchester as they are also Ice Cream Merchants ?In 1881 he is at Broadbank Cottages, Elizabeth Street, East Ham. He may have had a child - Sarah Charlotte Cassinello, born on 24 Aug 1889, with a Mary Jane Oliver, who is shown as a servant?
He then moves to Woolwich - 55 Artillery Place, Woolwich and 123 Greenwich Road, Woolwich, before his death in 1890 in Woolwich, London.
Any assistance or leads welcome
Regards
Bobfilm
