A couple of snippets re James Cassinello:

In 1875 he is charged with, but acquitted of,larceny.

In 1891 he is described as a "travelling photographer, and ordered to pay 2s 6d per week in respect of the illegitimate child of Edith Gash.

Hi Roger
Big thanks for extra info
Do I presume you are talking about (5) Mary Ann Cassinello   abt 1845 in Birmingham?
marrying Joesph Bassi?

Yes,that is my assumption based on location(same parish),time(approx.coincident with other family) and age(would be approx 20 at marriage, having children over the next 20 years).

Really great help. Also found Nicola Cassinello in Ireland in 1863 as a photographer.
Anybody know anything about the Ice Cream connection?

Don't know what,if anything, to make of it yet,but there is a coincidence of occupations with various people called Bassi in the Holborn registration district as follows:

1851  Salvatore  - optician's workman (looking glass manufacture?)
1871  Giuseppe and Antonio - one is listed as a frame maker
1881  Angelo - ice cream seller

Perhaps it was simply another business opportunity in the local Italian community. In the 1881 census there are 182 people of Italian origin involved with ice cream in the Holborn registration district.

The only other very tenuous connection would involve an alternate marriage for Mary Ann(1845)
There is a marriage in Holborn in 1863 of a Maria Cassinelli probably to a Domenico Vacarezza.
I will check other Vacarezza census entries

There is only a John/Giovanni(Italian equivalent?) Vacarazza or similar,in future censuses, who is single and a confectioner(?)/shopman in Liverpool in 1871 and an ice cream vendor in Cardiff thereafter. He is generally given as from Genoa.
