St Faith's mother and baby home Gateshead
« on: Tuesday 30 April 13 19:48 BST (UK) »
does anyone know where St. Faith's in Gateshead was please? All we we have found out is that it was used as a home for unmarried mothers in 1940s  but can't find the location.
Thanks in anticipation :)

As Durhams record office hold the records for St Faiths, according to the National archives website, ,might it be worth contacting them for further details of what records they do hold,

In the 1940 Telephone Book St. Faiths Home is at 8 Grasmere Street Gateshead http://goo.gl/maps/FC2hF (assuming the street has not been renumbered)

Thanks Stan, what would we do without you
just checked your map reference, the properties on that street are quite substantial, although not sure what I expected to find! Private housing would be more discrete I suppose.

hi,
Durham records office holdings for St Faith's start at 1948. We need records for an earlier date ???

thanks again to Radcliffe and Stan for your help.
think we have exhausted this line of enquiry.

St faiths home in gateshead in the late sixties and early seventies was Eighton lodge just beneath the Angel of the North.... I was there in 1970. Think it is a nursing or residential home for the elderly now.
It was run by a Miss Nelson and a Miss Lord.... That's sounds corny now... I may be wrong about the names.

hello and welcome to rootschat  Juliegemmabros.

thanks for that info it helps to build up a bigger picture. however, we are more interested in the 1940s era but I'm sure there will be others who will appreciate your input.

thanks again
