This is a possible marriage;
Emily A Herbert married a Frederick A Bowsher in the Bicester Reg. Dist Jun 1/4 1918 (Vol.3a Page.2029
Might pay to get a marriage certificate.

In 1911 it looks as  if she is living in Stockcross, Newbury with her mother Agnes (Widow) with two siblings.

In 1901 it the same as you found and listed in your original regquest.

So you need to search out her death as Emily A Burrows ..... possibly 1971, Swindon

My friend was born 1931, her father Frederick Arthur Bowsher
 died 1967

 I see a Frederick Arthur Bowsher  dying in Oxford  in 1971,  The Frederick  Bowsher  dying in 1967   has W  as a  middle  initial

 I think I  see your  friend   in1931  ,  she  has 2  older sisters ? in 1918 and 1921 ?

well, its deffo Emily Alice (re)marrying in 1947 (details as above) as it gives her former name as Herbert.

So either they divorced and remarried or its a big coincidence.

She knows very little, not even when her mum died!

I think she will need to spend a few 3's on some cert's

Her mother's married name was BOWSHER and I can't even find her death!

examine the facts and if necessary get certs - a re-marriage would explain why you cant find a Death Index entry for her in the BOWSHER name.


Did you follow the logic in Reply #8 - which has at least established where she was in 1901 census......

Yes I did follow the Reply in #8 it seems to make sense but obviously I can't be 100% so I need to question my friend further.

Hmmmm - well, its 100% that Emily is older than her brother, and if you look at the last available census, they have it right.

Her (first) marriage Cert and/or her Birth Cert should confirm 100% ...

ref her (and first) husband re-marrying - does your friend have no memories of 1947 events?
