and Jane last. No wonder I could not find a marriage for them abt 1800. In addition, to check the 'Edwards' connection, John and Harriet  Lodge named their 2nd daughter, born in NZ, Lucy Edwards Lodge. - hm, just thinking about this.... it would make more sense for ANN to have had John and William (because she is listed as a widow on that marriage) so that a child of John's would be 'X Edwards Lodge'. Then again, William may be the son of William Lodge - he got the business, right? and John the son of Ann from her previous marriage, with Sarah and Jane and poss Robert being the children of William snr and Ann.  I must get some of those  cd's   *smile* for baptisms. There could be a wesleyian connection because of Sarah Ellen's marriage to the illustrious Rev Charles Rawlings.

If you want to see Robert's Baptismal entry (which should give father's occupation) you can download it from here:

You will have to buy credits but you only have to lash out a fiver which is a lot cheaper than buying a cert.

good idea... and the Foulkes is a middle name that Sarah Ellen gave one of her children, marriage to Rev Charles Rawlings. So that fits!

When I looked over my speculations - the possibility that William is William snr's son and John was an Edwards because his mother was married to an Edwards - that would only hang if John had subsequently taken the name 'Lodge'. I suppose it is possible. It does explain why John, who is the elder son and also a marble mason, doesn't get the family business but prefers to go to NZ. Maybe my speculations are a little wild   *S*  I am just looking at the birth dates of the children to see if there are any discrepancies.

Most possibly, John b abt  1808 and William 1812 are the sons of William and his unknown wife (although not yet certain!). Robert is born a respectable 9 months after William and Ann's marriage. Then they have Sarah and Jane.

The only way to find John & William's parents would be to employ a Lancashire Archives researcher to look at the Independant Methodist registers covering that period.
Or put a link to this on the Lancs. board & ask if anyone's going there who can look for you.
