tick boxes on unread post page

these boxes have probabally been here for ages and I just somehow have missed them ::)
anyway Mark all Messages as read.......Mark selected messages and Ignore messages.
what exactly do these do apart from obvious ;D
How I have missed these I dont know been on here for years :-[

If you 'Mark all messages as read' it clears all unread messages PLUS any unread 'New replies'

I have started doing this each evening before logging off but I always make sure that  I have looked at my 'New Replies' first.  At least now I don't have loads of pages of unread posts.  ;D

thanks Rosie.........dont know how I have missed this.....but willdo same as you as sometimes I have
had as many as 40 odd pages
