Kibworth Beauchamp and Harcourt,Baptisms, Marriages,Deaths
« on: Wednesday 08 May 13 08:58 BST (UK) »
Has anybody got the Kibworth Beauchamp/Harcourt parish records at hand to search ?

From IGI
I have a Thomas Chapman Gardiner born 14th July 1818,bapt 25th Jan 1819 to a John and Elizabeth Gardiner at Kibworth Beauchamp,is this correct?
And is there any trace of a marriage of a John Gardiner to an Elizabeth, possibly a Chapman around that period? .
It could be Beauchamp or Harcourt as they seem to have connections to both,Thomas marrying in 1868 at the Independant Chapel in Harcourt.
Any help would be appreciated
Thanks
Paul

I don't have access to the records, but based on Family Search the couple look to have a number of other children in Kibworth including John 1804, Elizabeth 1808 and Mary Maria 1813, so their marriage could be very early 1800.

Now that's  a quick response thanks.
Yes there seems to be a least 5   children born to a John and Elizabeth Gardiner in Kibworth in that period 1804-1819,putting the marriage sometime around 1800, wether they all belong to the same parents is another question.

There are a lot of family trees on Ancestry listing these 5 as children of John Gardiner and Elizabeth(Chapman)? and they all contain the same error ,they have the parents John born 1792 and Elizabeth 1796 how can they be the parents of children born 1804,1808,1810,1813?

Thomas born 1819 is a definite possible

Wether there were 2 lots of John and Elizabeth Gardiners in Kibworth around that period is another thing.

Thanks again Kay

Paul

What is Johns Occp from Thomas's M/C?

FreeREG has a Burial of a John GARDINE, 01 June 1847, St Wilfrid, Kibwoth (sic) Beauchamp
Age 70, Birth c 1777
Abode Harbro Union Workhouse

I cant pin him down in 1841 though conclusively.

Trish

John Gardiners occupation now that is another can of worms!

When Thomas marries in 1840 ,he is of full age,a bachelor, and a Tailor.
his father John is listed as a Gent

When Thomas marries in 1868,he is 49,a widower, and a Tailor Journeyman,
his father is listed as Deaceased and a former Labourer.

Gent to Labourer now that's a serious career change!
Did he lose all his money in some scandal?,or did his son just "exaggerate a tiny bit".
The wedding was in Leyton Essex where she came from so perhaps he was able to get away with it for a while?

The labourer part fits in nicely with the dying in Market Harboro workhouse, but he is not there in 1841 census, and I cannot see him anywhere else.

There is a John and Elizabeth Gardener living in Seagrave in 1841 and 1851,who seems to die in 1860 Barrow on soar ,and he was a Gardener by profession as well as by name.

I also have from IGI a marriage of a John Gardiner to a Elizabeth Chapman which would be wonderful but its in 1732 in Heather, which is 86 years before Thomas Chapman Gardiner is born,so unless somebody has made a total misread with the year and its 1792 instead, that rules them out.

More questions than answers,as usual

Thanks for the help
Paul

Thanks to kovel I now know there was a marriage of a John Gardiner to an Elizabeth Chapman on 30 June 1799 in Marston Trussell (just across the border in Northants),which looks a distinct possibility.

I managed to get to the record office in Wigston, but had one of those days, three and a half hours and only found 3 Gardiners in Kibworth Parish Records and they were all what I had before!

Could not find the Baptisms of the 5 Gardiner children I wanted to check

John -1804.....Elizabeth-1808.....Matida Ann-1810.....Mary Maria-1813.....Thomas Chapman-1819

or the death of Elizabeth Gardiner.

I understand there was an Independent Chapel in Kibworth Harcourt is it possible they belonged to that and has anybody got records for it they could check for me?

Or am I just going blind and cannot see them on the Kibworth Beauchamp ones?
