Jemima and Isabella Telford
« on: Thursday 09 May 13 09:47 BST (UK) »
Hi,

I would like to know if there is any connection between Jemima and Isabella Telford.  Jemima Telford was born in 1849 in Liverpool and Isabella born in 1842-43 in Liverpool also.  We think that Jemimas parents were James and Bridgit Telford, and Isabellas father we think was William Telford (a policeman), mother unknown.

Jemima married  Richard Kelly and had a son William Telford Kelly born Isle of Man in 1869 and died in Liverpool in 1979,  he married Emily Eleanor Fargher (Emily born 1871 in Bolton, Lancashire) on 11.10.1919 at St Dunstan, Edgehill, Liverpool.

Emily Farghers mother was Isabella Telford married to Edward Fargher.

Hope that this all makes sense.  If you could come up with a connection between Jemima and Isabella we would be most appreciative.

Cheers Liz

Hi again,

That's awesome, it now looks like Jemima and Isabella may have been sisters, so don't know where the James and Bridgit came from.  It now looks like William and Emily would have been 1st cousins.

Thanks once again.

Cheers Liz

Family Search has the baptism you refer to- James and Bridget in 1849

There is a marriage for a Jemima to Edward Worthington in 1875 with parents James and Ann. :-\

Hi,

Have now come to the conclusion that the Jemima connected to James and Bridgit is not the correct family in our research, thanks anyway.

Cheers Liz

Just wanted to say that you state William Telford Kelly was b.1869 and died 1979!!

The William Telford Kelly who died 1979 was actually born 22/1/1911.

An online tree states that Jemima and Isabella were indeed sisters!   Familysearch baptisms show that William and Margaret Telford only baptised their eldest child - Margaret bp.28/2/1838 - so the baptism of Jemima to a James in 1849 is indeed a red herring.

The William Telford Kelly b.1869 did in fact die in 1929 Liverpool and would seem the one who died in 1979 was his son.

Unfortunately, I cannot find the Telford family in 1861 Census and according to submitters of online trees neither can they.

The only mystery at this point is how William was a Shoemaker in 1851 and a Police Officer by 1862.   Quite a change in his occupation.

I imagine a growing police force in Liverpool would be recruiting from all walks of life.

It is quite possible that William decided to join in those 10 years.
